Information :: Pre-Surgical Instructions These instructions must be followed for all patients who are considering IV sedation or general anesthesia for their surgical appointment. The following instructions are designed for your safety. If you have any questions concerning these pre-operative instructions or the surgery itself, please call the office.

EATING AND DRINKING
Do not have anything to eat or drink for 8 hours prior to your appointment. There are two exceptions to this condition.

•	Clear liquids can be taken up to two hours prior to your appointment. Clear liquids include; water, apple juice, black coffee, tea or soda pop. Milk, citrus juices or coffee & tea with cream or milk are not considered clear liquids.
•	Medications: Medications that you normally take should be taken on their regular schedule with sips of water. Any medications that may have been prescribed for your oral surgery should be taken one hour prior to the appointment with sips of water.

General Instructions

•	Please wear loose fitting clothing with short sleeves.
•	If you wear contact lenses, please remove them before coming to the office.
•	All patients undergoing sedation or general anesthesia must be accompanied to the office by a responsible adult who can drive them home. This escort must be present before the surgery is started, and must remain in the office so he or she will be available to assist you home when you are ready to leave the office.
•	Patients who have been sedated or given a general anesthetic may not drive or operate dangerous machinery for 24 hours following their procedure.
